dealing with stress at university
hey all,
im not sure this is the right place to post it but ppl have been posting a lot of stuff here lately so i hope ill get response.
So here is my story,
im a first year nursing student, started my studies two months ago and my first exams are about to begin...
im having a really hard time trying to deal with the stress of the exams and the huge amount of classes and material.
im trying really hard not to worry and not to think about it but i simply cant help it( im not a bad student and ussually have quite good grades,i study a lot but i always feel like its not enough).
ive been reading and posting in this forum for a while and noticed that there are a lot of college students here and would really appriciate if ppl could suggest to me how to deal with this situation and share their ways of dealing with stress of the exams and the evryday life...
im sure it would help me and other ppl a lot!

Well everyone has there own ways of dealing with stress. One of the big things to remember is sometimes u need a break to help u work better. A break refreshes your mind and helps u relax a little. a Refreshed mind is better at working that a strained mind, but hey ur learning to be a nurse u should know that . Stress is horrible especially when it seems like everythings going wrong and/or theres no end in sight.
Its important to remember that your only human at the end of the day and u can only do so much. As long as u have tried the best u can without driving urself ill or crazy then u have nothing to really worry about. However having said all this, when ur under stress like this u often cant see that ur pushing urself too hard.
My advise is to keep on working, btu make sure u have a every so often be in an evening a week or an hour a day. How and When u have a break is up to u, just make sure u have one. And above all keep urself happy or humorous (spending some time with friends helps there) just to keep your moral higher than if u make urself isolated from Stress.
There is no simple way of dealing with stress, you just have to find the strenght within urself to keep pushing through and through until eventually things work out one way or the other.
Ok thats probally no help to anyone what so ever but then again im no good at explaining things. Anyways hope that helps Evenstar. Good luck with ur exams and dont let the stress get to u too much (easier said than done, i know)

Friends. Simple as that. If you have good friends that will support you it makes life alot easier. They will be there to tell you that you will do fine and sometiems will even study with you. Study groups also help ALOT. Try to get a study group and study with them. Don't study so much that you burn yourself out. Take breaks to hang out with friends for a bit. Then go back to studying. Just don't worry about the test. As hard as it sounds try. Visualize yourself doing well on these test. If you see yourself doing well and knowing that you can do the material it makes it alot easier.

Stress. something i feel every single day, at least 24 times a day, and it lasts for at least an hour each time.
Well seriously i am stressed a LOT. I know what you mean about final exams, it is my finals week =( Im trying to not worry myself to much about it, beacuse i know that yeah, I can study my butt of all week, stay up till 4 in the morning reading a book, trying to memorize things that may not even be on the exam, and i still, regardless of how much i study, may not even do well on it.
So i just try to relax. I have studied for my finals, but i have done it in small amounts, and I have my first one tommorow afternoon, so before the class I am going to refresh my memory. But otherwise, thats it. Im going to take my mind away from everything else. Maybe thats a bad idea, But i'll find out after this week i suppose...
I mainy play games for stress, just to take my mind off of the things. I just get really wrapped up when I play a game, and i can focus on only that. Another thing that i find helps is getting a lot of rest, stress + no sleep = even worse stress.
But good luck with your finals! I think you will do just fine!!

i think i know what u mean. And u know what....i think im like you except that im a design student and well...thinkin abt grades and stuff does make one feel stressed. However, i think that its a matter of confidence as well. If ur grades are quite good then i think that all u need to do is go one step further and well...maybe improve ur study methods if u want to do even better? as long as you dont find your grades dropping, always find new ways of studying better. Also, its best to revise ur notes/work regularly(maybe daily, at least 2hours) so that u can find out what u dont understand and well, ask ur lecturers/tutors/teachers etc about it.
about coping with stress...hmm...i think that sleep is very important. dont overwork yourself or u might forget certain stuff. Oh...and its very important to unwind urself once in a while. Playing com games daily is ok as long as u know how to balance it up with revision. For ur case, I think its also good to draw out a timetable so that you can organize ur time if ur having time management problems. well thats all the stuff i know abt stress and dealing with it. hope it helps.
